Lavinia is Monica; A physiognomic investigation that, starting from the characteristic traits of his character, Lavinia, seeks to trace the human presuppositions, those which seem instead to characterize Monica. Lavinia and Monica Therefore, as the title suggests, are the same person and yet we receive different sensations. The artist exasperates This diversity through the treatment of the image. In the picture that portrays her in profile, the protagonist appears enveloped in a pictorial aura; Recalls, for his accentuated features, the famous double portrait of the Dukes of Urbino by Piero della Francesca. His profile stands out with evidence on a blue background, almost immaterial, a blue that recurs in Roberta's work, a reminder of the transcendence of which art, in a broad sense, is a spokesman. The second photograph portrays Monica/Lavinia frontally, as if frozen in a grotesque and enigmatic expression, looks fixed in front of the observer as if to want to interrogate him. Her veiled dress gives a glimpse of the details of her breasts. The image tells us, through its subtleties, much more about Monica, the Monica woman, her life, her history. But who is then the portrayed character? It is a portrait of gender, the investigation of an individual or rather to project his own subjective vision, that of the artist before, that of the observer then, to seize similar traits in diversity, to reach the essence of this face so Expressive? It can probably be all three of these things put together, here Roberta shows us, as previously had done with other works, the possibility of projecting itself outside of itself, in that intermediate space of focus where the subjectivity intersecting, in A game that continues to renew itself and that never runs out once and for all.

Lavinia è Monica; un’indagine fisionomica che partendo dai tratti caratteristici del suo personaggio, Lavinia, cerca di rintracciarne i presupposti umani, quelli che sembrano invece caratterizzare Monica. Lavinia e Monica dunque, come si evince dal titolo, sono la stessa persona e tuttavia noi ne riceviamo sensazioni differenti. L’artista esaspera questa diversità attraverso il trattamento dell’immagine. Nella foto che la ritrae di profilo, la protagonista appare avvolta in un aura pittorica; ricorda, per i suoi accentuati tratti somatici, il celeberrimo doppio ritratto dei duchi di Urbino di Piero della Francesca. Il suo profilo si staglia con evidenza su uno sfondo blu, quasi immateriale, un blu che ricorre nell’opera di Roberta, un richiamo a quella trascendenza di cui l’arte, in senso ampio, si fa portavoce. La seconda fotografia ritrae invece Monica/Lavinia frontalmente, come congelata in un’espressione grottesca ed enigmatica, guarda fissa di fronte all’osservatore come a volerlo interrogare. Il suo vestito velato lascia intravedere i particolari dei seni. L’immagine ci dice, attraverso le sue sottigliezze, molto di più riguardo a Monica, la donna Monica, il suo vissuto, la sua storia. Ma chi è allora il personaggio ritratto? Si tratta di un ritratto di genere, dell’indagine su un individuo o piuttosto di proiettare la propria visione soggettiva, quella dell’artista prima, quella dell’osservatore poi, di cogliere tratti simili nella diversità, di arrivare all’essenza di questo viso così espressivo? Probabilmente può trattarsi di tutte e tre queste cose messe insieme, qui Roberta ci mostra, come in precedenza aveva fatto con altri lavori, la possibilità di proiettarsi al di fuori di sé, in quello spazio intermedio di messa a fuoco dove si intersecano le soggettività, in un gioco che continua a rinnovarsi e che non si esaurisce mai una volta per tutte.
