In convalescences, Roberta Filippelli pees from the keyhole of the House of any family to discover, submerged by layers of pleasantries and appearances, a reality sordid, shabby, sick. Convalescence is a portrait of a normal family (a)normal: Mother, father and son. The mother is the only member of the family that appears four times, showing, without any modesty, all her working identities, day and night. The frame that encloses their faces, opulent in the manner of those that show of whether in the good living room of any respectable family, is not that transparent plastic and seems to leave our still more naked, helpless, at the mercy of the eye, and the judgement, of the Spectator. The vices, the illnesses, the weaknesses the difficulties that in the everyday life are concealed behind simulated smiles and melodious "Good Morning", are all exposed in plain sight. Yet their gaze is fixed on the one who looks: it would almost be a glimpse of pride and fierceness. It is the gaze of those who, careless of the judgement of others, continue as animals their personal daily battle for survival. Although they seem to be avvulsi by reality, so immortated in front of a monochrome bottom that does not provide any spatial and temporal coordinates, the convalescent of Roberta Filippelli are so characterized that we can not fail to recognize in them that misery , moral as well as economic, so epidemic in our time.

In convalescenze, Roberta Filippelli sbircia dal buco della serratura della casa di una famiglia qualunque per scoprire, sommersa da strati di convenevoli e apparenze, una realtà sordida, squallida, malata. Convalescenze è un ritratto di una famiglia (a)normale: madre, padre e figlio. La madre è l'unico membro del nucleo familiare che compare quattro volte, mostrando, senza alcun pudore, tutte le sue identità lavorative, diurne e notturne. La cornice che racchiude i loro volti, sfarzosa alla maniera di quelle che fanno mostra di se nel salotto buono di ogni famiglia che si rispetti, non è che di plastica trasparente e sembra lasciare i nostri ancora più nudi, indifesi, alla mercè dell'occhio, e del giudizio, dello spettatore. I vizi, le malattie, le debolezze le difficoltà che nella vita di tutti i giorni si occultano dietro sorrisi simulati e melodiosi "buongiorno", sono tutti esposti in bella vista. Eppure il loro sguardo è fisso su chi guarda: parrebbe quasi di scorgere fierezza e orgoglio. E' lo sguardo di coloro che, incuranti del giudizio altrui, proseguono come animali la loro personale battaglia quotidiana per la sopravvivenza. Sebbene sembrino avvulsi dalla realtà, così immortalati davanti a un fondale monocromo che non fornisce alcuna coordinata spaziale e temporale, i convalescenti di Roberta Filippelli sono talmente caratterizzati che non possiamo non riconoscere in loro quella miseria, morale oltre che economica, così epidemica nel nostro tempo.
